56-Year-Old Ontario Man Killed in Collision near Jack Rabbit Trail

MORENO VALLEY, CA (August 16, 2018) – On Thursday, a man died in fatal collision on Gilman Springs Rpad, between an SUV and a dairy hauling tractor-trailer big-rig. The deceased victim was identified as 56-year-old Carlos Segura of Ontario.

California Highway Patrol, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire, American Medical Response, and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene just after 4:30 AM.

The initial investigation revealed that Segura was driving eastbound in a green Nissan Pathfinder on Gilman Springs Road, nearing Knoch Road. At the same time, 62-year-old Raul Moran of Yucaipa was driving north on Knoch. Moran was operating a white, semi-truck pulling a silver tank trailer that was fully loaded with milk.

It was found that the Moran was pulling the truck of a local dairy’s driveway, east of Jack Rabbit Trail making a left turn to travel west on Gilman Springs Road when he failed to yield to the approaching SUV. The Nissan collided with the center of the tank trailer, continued underneath it, and cameout the opposite side. Segura was killed instantly.

The dairy hauler was found diagonally across the road and the severely wrecked green Pathfinder was in the middle of the road, just east of the big-rig. Debris and vehicle parts were scattered across the roadway, which caused the roadways to be unpassable. Gilman Springs was closed to the public for about four hours and reopened around 8:45 AM.

CHP has not confirmed how fast the SUV was actually traveling, but officers are actively investigating to know if intoxication was involved on either party. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
