Speeding Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Crash on Harbor Scenic Drive in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (February 3, 2020) – A man died in a high-speed crash Monday evening in Long Beach.
The crash happened around 9:00 p.m. on Harbor Scenic Drive, just south of Ocean Boulevard.
Police said a 2014 Honda Civic was speeding the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Harbor Scenic Drive. It then lost control and hit a curb.
The Honda continued westbound, struck a pole and multiple trees in the embankment.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and found the driver trapped inside the car. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures but the driver succumbed to his injuries, according to police.
Authorities identified the driver as Carlos Robles, 29, of Carson.
Robles was the only person in the car, and he had a valid driver’s license. Nobody else was hurt.
Police said they suspect drugs or alcohol may be a factor in the crash. They asked anyone with information to call detectives at 562-570-5520, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
We would like to offer our sincere thoughts and sympathies to the family and friends of Carlos Robles during this heartbreaking moment.
