36-Year-Old Oakland Man Dies after Truck Collides with Car near Republic Avenue
SAN LEANDRO, CA (January 25, 2019) – A man was killed Friday morning following a head-on crash near Republic Avenue. The victim was later identified as 36-year-old Carlos Rios, a resident of Oakland.
According to the San Leandro Police Department, the incident happened at about 6:26 AM. The victim was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Merced Street when it crossed a center median and collided head-on with a northbound Ford Escort.
Rios was ejected out the truck passenger side window and hit the Ford before falling to the ground. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the woman driving the Ford was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
