Passenger Carlos Quinonez Injured in Deadly Crash on State Route 46 [San Luis Obispo, CA]

San Luis Obispo, CA (July 30, 2024) – Carlos Quinonez, 28, of Orange Cove, was injured in a deadly vehicle crash on State Route 46 Sunday night.

The fatal collision occurred at about 10:28 p.m. on the eastbound freeway, west of West Centre Street in Shandon. 

CHP officers said a 2021 Mercedes driven by Saundra Foutz, 30, of Paso Robles, was westbound in the eastbound lane when her vehicle crashed head-on with an eastbound 2022 Honda.

Another Honda traveling behind the eastbound 2022 Honda also collided with the initial crash vehicles.

The driver of the first Honda, a 24-year-old man from Cutler, one passenger was a 32-year-old from Sanger, and another was a 27-year-old from Reedley. They were killed in the collision. The authorities withheld their identities pending notification of kin.

Carlos Quinonez was the third passenger in the first Honda. The paramedics transported him to Sierra Vista Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver of the second Honda, Jess Lopez, 38, of Bakersfield, incurred minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.

Foutz sustained major injuries and was rushed to CRMC Hospital in Fresno. The responding officers initially did not expect her to survive, but she has since survived her injuries.

CHP officers do not suspect impairment as a contributing factor in the fatal collision.

The authorities are investigating.
