Covelo Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Collision on Foothill Boulevard
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (September 17, 2019) – Authorities identified 34-year-old Carlos Lopez Cruz of Covelo as the motorcyclist killed in a crash on Foothill Boulevard, Tuesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 7:37 PM. A westbound 1998 Toyota 4Runner, driven by 20-year-old Steven Blake, attempted to pass a stopped vehicle near Crawford Road. There, the Toyota collided head-on with an eastbound 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster.
Cruz sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Blake received treatment for minor injuries, while his passenger did not suffer injuries.
The CHP shut down Foothill Boulevard for several hours. No arrests were made and investigators ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information to the public once it becomes available.
