Hemet Man Killed in California Avenue Bicycle Crash
Hemet, CA (February 12, 2022) – On Thursday, officers arrested 38-year-old Carlos Acosta of Homeland, in a California Avenue fatal hit-and-run crash, killing a Hemet male bicyclist.
Officers said Acosta was driving his 2008 GMC Acadia at the intersection of California Avenue and Stetson Avenue.
Apparently, he plowed into the bicyclist and shattered the victim’s bike. Reports said Acosta hurled the bicyclist a short distance from the impact point.
The Riverside County Fire Department paramedics declared the bicyclist dead at the scene.
Moreover, Acosta did not stop after the incident. Instead, he drove northbound.
Luckily, witnesses noticed him and provided details to the authorities.
Officers went to a property on Ocean Avenue in Homeland, where they arrested Acosta without incident.
They booked Carlos Acosta into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in fatality, as well as driving on a suspended license.
Acosta is being held on $75,000 bail.
During this tragic time, we would like to send our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the person who died in the California Avenue bicycle crash.
