65-Year-Old Ballard Dead and Dog Injured after Struck by DUI Driver near NW 46th Street
SEATTLE, WA (August 27, 2018) – On Monday night, a woman was killed and one of her dogs was seriously injured in a DUI collision on 14th Avenue NW. The deceased victim was later identified by the King County Medical Examiner as 65-year-old Cara Masciana of Ballard.
According to troopers with the Washington State Patrol, the fatal incident occurred just before 9:30 PM at NW 46th Street, near the Trader Joe’s. Masciana was walking her dogs in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of 14th and 46th when a black BMW ran a stop and struck them.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and transported the severely injured woman to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. One of her dogs, a pug, was seriously injured and rushed to a veterinarian. He is expected to be okay. The second dog ran away from the scene and could not be located.

The 34-year-old female remained at the scene and was examined by a drug recognition expert, who found signs of impairment. She was arrested and booked into the King County Jail. No further details have been disclosed to the public at this time.
