Manteca Car Accident
MANTECA, CA (September 4, 2019) – A car crashed into the bay door of Manteca Fire Station 2 September 1.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., a Facebook post from the union representing Mantecia firefighters stated.
“We had just returned from a medical call, so we were out here, right around here, in the out bay getting undressed and then getting ready for the next call when somebody drove through our front door,” Manteca Fire Captain Travis Gooch revealed.
Gooch added that the collision happened within a few feet of one of his firefighters.
“If the door had been up he could have been hit. He was right there,” Gooch stated. “He was about two or three feet away from it when it came through.”
As the firefighters tried to approach the driver, the late-model gray or silver Toyota sedan reversed and drove away down Union Road.
The collision didn’t leave structural damage to the building. However, the bay door needs replacement.
“We’ve actually responded to probably 20 or 30 calls since then out of the station. So the service was never actually impacted,” Gooch added. “We just had to move some vehicles around because we can’t use the front door.”
Driving can be very dangerous and almost anything can happen if you are not prepared. It is important to always drive within the posted speed limit. Slow down if you see traffic stalling ahead to avoid hitting other vehicles.
