Caltrans Workers Injured in Accident on 80 Freeway [Fairfield, CA]

Caltrans Truck Collide with Van near Manuel Campos Parkway

FAIRFIELD, CA (August 21, 2018) – Caltrans workers were injured in an accident on 80 Freeway, late Tuesday morning. Their identities and places of residence were not immediately disclosed to the public.

According to the California Highway Patrol, five Caltrans workers were doing maintenance work around 11:00 AM near the Manuel Campos Parkway. Their van with a trailer was on the right shoulder of the highway when a Ford pickup truck in the slow lane veered off the road rear-ended the truck.

Due to the impact of the collision, the work van rolled over onto its side.

One Caltrans worker suffered major injuries, while two other workers and the truck driver suffered minor injuries. All of them were taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. There is currently no update on their medical condition.

The No. 2 and 3 lanes of the highway near Manuel Campos were blocked until around 3:30 PM, as clean up and investigation took place. Officials believe that distracted driving was a factor in the collision. Other details have not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
