Caltrans Worker Killed in State Route 4 Hit-and-Run Crash [Stockton, CA]

Stockton, CA (April 8, 2023) – On Thursday, a 34-year-old man from Lone Pine, a Caltrans contracted worker sustained fatal injuries following a State Route 4 hit-and-run crash.

According to CHP Stockton, a 21-year-old Stockton woman driving a westbound 2017 Honda Accord on the freeway and drove into a construction zone in the far two right lanes.

Apparently, the construction zone was positioned that it blocked access to northbound and southbound Interstate 5 as workers were cutting concrete in the number three and four lanes.

As the woman entered the construction zone at around 65 miles-per-hour, she struck the construction worker and left him with critical injuries. Sadly, the worker later succumbed to his injuries.

Afterward, the woman got out of her vehicle and fled on foot, but the authorities later located her at her residence. The officers arrested her with charges of manslaughter, felony DUI and felony hit-and-run.

“This avoidable tragedy totally underscores the message we at Caltrans try to put out every day, and that is to please be safe in and around work sites and crews,” Caltrans District 10 said in a statement. “These are dangerous jobs in dangerous locations and the utmost safety is required to keep our crews, and those of our contractors, out of harm’s way.”
