78-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Pedestrian Accident near Union Avenue
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 10, 2018) – An elderly pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on 3rd Street, early Friday morning. The deceased victim was later identified by the coroner’s office as 78-year-old Byung Yu.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash took place around 5:20 AM, near Union Avenue. Yu was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 3rd and Union when he was struck by a silver or gray Chevy Trailblazer that was traveling at an unknown speed. The driver sped from the scene, leaving the critically injured elderly man in the road.
Emergency personnel arrived at the crash site and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
There are currently no further details on the hit-and-run driver or the vehicle involved. It was expected to have extensive damage to its front end.
No additional information on the deadly incident has been disclosed by the Los Angeles Police Department at this time. An investigation is ongoing to identify and locate the hit-and-run suspect.
