Driver Arrested after Crash on 8th and Townsend Streets in San Francisco
San Francisco, CA (October 20, 2023) – Late Friday afternoon, a bystander sustained injuries in a crash on 8th and Townsend.
The San Francisco Fire Department said the vehicle crashed into a building at 4:30 p.m., striking a passerby. Both the driver and the passerby were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver was later arrested.
San Francisco police are investigating and closed off streets in the area of Eight and Townsend, where responders remained on the scene throughout the evening.
The truck crashed into the showroom of the luxury furniture store Roche Bobois Paris.
According to SFPD, the driver was still in the vehicle when officers arrived. Officers rendered aid and called emergency services as the driver appeared unresponsive.
Police say the driver of the truck is suspected of hitting an occupied vehicle in the area of 8th and Harrison Streets and fleeing the scene.
The two occupants of this vehicle were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect continued to 8th and Townsend streets, where the driver rammed an unoccupied vehicle and two occupied vehicles before finally crashing into the store, police said.
Luckily, the occupants of those vehicles suffered no injuries.
Further investigation is ongoing.
