[UPDATE] Suspect Driver Arrested for Los Angeles Crash That Killed Byern Smith
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 20, 2020) – [UPDATE] Byern Smith died after being hit by a big rig driver in Downtown Los Angeles, and police arrested the suspect this week.
According to the Los Angeles police report, just before 2:00 a.m. on May 7, Byern Smith, 51, was strolling in the 1600 block of East 7th Street.
Later, witnesses said a vehicle came along, striking and killing Mr. smith. Unfortunately, the driver then fled the scene.
Updates on Suspect’s Arrest
Police found the at large driver this week, and then arrested her for killing Byern Smith.
They took Maria Perez, 59, a resident of Bell Gardens, into custody. This followed a witness spotting her 2005 Scion xB on Sunday.
Indeed, the 2005 Scion vehicle under Perez’s possession was described as killing Byern Smith the night of May 7.
Therefore, the LAPD booked Perez on felony hit-and-run, another felony charge, and one misdemeanor.
