14-Year-Old Injured in Bus Crash on West Sacramento Avenue in Chico
Chico, CA (September 30, 2024) – On Monday morning, a 14-year-old bicyclist sustained injuries in a crash on West Sacramento Avenue.
Around 7:45 a.m., the CHP received a report of a collision between a bus and a bicycle near West Sacramento Avenue and the railroad tracks.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 14-year-old who had sustained lacerations. During their investigation, the CHP learned that the school bus had stopped at the railroad crossing and deployed its stop sign.
The juvenile on the bike saw the bus stop and decided to cross the street.
As the bus driver completed their check of the railroad tracks and began moving forward. The juvenile was almost fully across the crosswalk when the front of the bus struck the rear tire of the bicycle, ejecting the juvenile from the bike.
The juvenile sustained minor injuries, while the two children on the bus were unharmed, according to the CHP.
The crash scene was cleared after about 30 minutes.
