Fatal Crash Leaves One Dead and Several Injured in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (January 24, 2019) – Thursday afternoon, a burglary suspect was killed in a two-car collision on Kooser Road.
Authorities began investigating the burglary at 12:55 PM on Corumba Court and Vargas Drive. Police saw the suspect as he was walking away from the front door of a house into a 2005 525I BMW. Once the suspect had seen police, he got into the BMW and sped away.
Officials pursued the vehicle but lost them on Meridian Avenue and Coleman Avenue. Shortly after, the BMW collided with a black 2008 Lexus SUV at the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Kooser Road.
Driver of the BMW fled on foot leaving behind two passengers, one being a 17-year-old. He was taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation while the other occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lexus was also injured, however there has been no update on his medical status.
The vehicle the suspect was driving was reported stolen. Inside the car, officers found several stolen items from previous burglaries.
The driver has yet to be identified and is wanted by police for several charges including burglary. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, said to be in his late teens.
The teen will be booked in Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for burglary and attempted burglary once released from the hospital. This has been the fifth vehicle related fatality of the year. according to police.
