Off-Duty Police Officer Dies after Crashing into Detached Trailer on 91 Freeway in Corona
CORONA, CA (September 28, 2019) – An off-duty Buena Park police officer was killed in a traffic collision Saturday morning in Corona.
The crash happened just after 5:00 a.m. on 91 Freeway east of 15 Freeway.
CHP officials said the off-duty officer was driving home in his sedan when he slammed into a trailer from a big rig that had detached from the truck and was left in lanes.
The impact caused the officer’s car to spin to the right, where it hit a second tractor-trailer, the CHP said.
As a result, the officer became trapped in his vehicle. Firefighters freed him from the wreckage and transported him to Riverside Community Community Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Arthur Brice, 58, of Moreno Valley.
Brice, a father and grandfather, had worked at the department for the past 11 years. He was assigned to the Gang Unit and patrol and was a member of the department’s Color Guard.
The crash remains under investigation.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the families and friends of Arthur Brice.
