18-Year-Old Huntington Beach Man Fatally Injured in Crash near Goldenwest Street
WESTMINSTER, CA (August 23, 2018) – A man was killed early Thursday in a rear-end crash on the northbound 405 Freeway. The victim was identified on Monday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as 18-year-old Bryan Herrera of Huntington Beach.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported at approximately 12:40 AM, just north of the Goldenwest Street exit.
The victim’s 2017 Honda Accord was in the No. 3 lane at an unknown speed when it failed to slow for construction traffic ahead. For unknown reasons, Herrera rear-ended a 1998 Kenworth big rig, that was traveling at around 5 mph.
He was taken to the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with major injuries and died soon after. The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old Pomona resident, was uninjured.
Authorities continue to investigate, in order to determine the cause of the collision and possible contributing factors. No additional details have been provided to the public at this time.
