Brutal Wrong-Way Crash on State Route 163 Hurts 5 [San Diego, CA]

San Diego, CA (January 13, 2024) On Friday morning, a wrong-way crash on State Route 163 left 5 people injured and a driver arrested by officials.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the 2-vehicle collision happened around 3:20 a.m. on the freeway near Robinson Avenue.

Reports say that a northbound white Mazda on the southbound SR-163 collided with a gray Toyota Camry.

Officials say that the crash trapped 4 people inside the Toyota, and rescuers used the Jaws of Life to rescue them from the wreckage.

Medics rushed the Toyota occupants to a hospital, no details were provided on the extent of their injuries, but authorities confirmed that they were expected to survive.

Meanwhile, the Mazda driver also sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials later arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
