Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Interstate 5 in Merced County
Merced County, CA (November 14, 2024) On Sunday afternoon, a person was pronounced dead after a tragic pedestrian crash on Interstate 5.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal collision happened at about 4:50 p.m. near State Route 33.
Reports say that a 24-year-old man from Norwalk was driving a 2014 Audi southbound at approximately 70 mph when he encountered a pedestrian walking east across the southbound lanes.
Authorities reported that the driver swerved to avoid the pedestrian but struck him with the front of the vehicle, causing fatal injuries.
The pedestrian, believed to be from Santa Nella, was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP continues to investigate the crash, and no signs of impairment have been reported.
