EL PASO, TX (October 31, 2024) – Wednesday morning, a brutal pedestrian crash on Interstate 10 West and Piedras Street killed 1 person.

The crash occurred just before 6:00 a.m. on Interstate 10 West and Piedras Street exit.

Traffic investigators were on-site, though police have not shared further details about the crash. The EPPD posted on X that all lanes were reopened before noon, clearing the traffic.

Initially, traffic was diverted to the Copia and Cotton exits with no estimated clearance time, according to the EPPD on X, advising drivers to take alternative routes. TxDOT El Paso later noted that the investigation could take a while, as traffic backups stretched into Wednesday morning.

“This is expected to be a long-duration closure while the investigation is undertaken. Please allow extra time, rethink your route, remain calm and drive on like a Texan: kind, courteous, and safe,” Texas Department of Transportation revealed.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
