According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the hit-and-run incident occurred on Highway 299 westbound near mile marker 39, east of Willow Creek.

Reports say that a vehicle struck a pedestrian and a dog, the collision took place around 6:58 p.m., and the driver fled the scene following the impact.

The pedestrian and the dog were discovered on the right-hand side of the road, with the dog tragically killed in the crash.

Emergency dispatch reported that the Hoopa Ambulance was en-route to assist the injured pedestrian, who suffered a head wound, hip pain, and extreme distress over the loss of the dog.

CHP officers arrived at the scene by 7:03 p.m. to gather details. The victim, described as highly uncooperative, was later detained in handcuffs.
