Man in Wheelchair Dead in Phoenix Pedestrian Accident near Southern Avenue and Central Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (November 12, 2024) – Saturday night, a man died in a brutal pedestrian crash near Southern Avenue and Central Avenue.

The incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. near Southern Avenue and Central Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene and discovered a 77-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital, where he later passed away. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

According to police, the man, who was in a wheelchair, attempted to cross midblock on Southern Avenue when he was hit by a Jeep driven by a 61-year-old man.

The driver remained at the scene and was assessed, with Phoenix PD reporting that impairment is not believed to have played a role in the incident.

The investigation is still underway.
