1 Dead in Lufkin Bicycle Accident on 900 Abney Avenue

LUFKIN, TX (July 31, 2023) – Sunday morning, a brutal hit-and-run crash on 900 Abney Avenue killed 1 person.

The incident happened at around 6:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Abney Avenue, said City of Lufkin Communications Director Jessica Pebsworth.

According to Pebsworth, a man rode a bicycle westbound when a speeding black SUV drove across all three lanes and hit him. Then, the driver went westbound on Abney Avenue.

Afterward, the victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was declared dead. His identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with cameras in the area to check their footage between 6:05 and 6:25 a.m. Police added that they believe the time of impact was roughly around 6:17 a.m.

Moreover, the suspect vehicle probably has damage to the driver’s side headlight.
