1 Dead in Harris County Pedestrian Accident on 1000 W Mount Houston Road

HARRIS COUNTY, TX (October 18, 2023) – Tuesday morning, a brutal hit-and-run crash on 1000 W Mount Houston Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened just before 7:00 a.m. in the 1000 block of W Mount Houston Road near the I-45 North Freeway.

According to reports, a woman called and revealed that she hit a dead body in the road.

When officers arrived, they located an older Hispanic man dead in the inside eastbound lane of the roadway.

Meanwhile, the woman remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators. Also, the driver and her daughter suffered no injuries in the crash.

Moreover, the authorities suspect that another driver hit the man and left him in the roadway either earlier in the morning or on Monday night.

“I will add that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk,” Lt. Simon Cheng revealed. “So I do want to urge pedestrians to make sure that they cross streets at a crosswalk, make sure they stay on a sidewalk when they are walking alongside roads, and make sure that if there are traffic signals present for pedestrians, to heed them. I also want to encourage drivers to make sure that they look for pedestrians when they are coming close to intersections, especially crosswalks since pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks. We also want to make sure that pedestrians know that state law says they are supposed to face vehicles when they’re walking on the roadway, so that way they can see any hazards coming towards them and take proper reaction time to avoid a vehicle if needed.”

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
