1 Dead in San Joaquin County Auto Accident on Highway 12 and Guard Road

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA (May 29, 2024) – Tuesday afternoon, a brutal head-on crash on Highway 12 and Guard Road killed 1 person.

The incident occurred at about 4:10 p.m. on Highway 12, west of Guard Road in San Joaquin County.

CHP spokesperson Officer Angel Arseo confirmed that a Volkswagen Passat and Honda Accord were driving in opposite directions. Then, the Volkswagen drove over double yellow lines and went into the opposing lane, colliding with the Honda head-on.

After the initial crash, a Toyota Prius collided with the already-impacted vehicles. While the Honda and Volkswagen remained on the roadway, the Prius continued and eventually ended up in a ditch. Tragically, the Volkswagen driver died from injuries sustained in the crash. The Honda driver suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries, and the Prius driver sustained minor injuries.

CHP confirmed that all drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accidents. The involvement of drugs or alcohol is still unclear and remains under investigation.
