4 People Dead in Downey Traffic Accident on 5 Freeway near Lakewood Boulevard

DOWNEY, CA (June 25, 2023) – Saturday morning, a brutal fiery vehicle crash on 5 Freeway near Lakewood Boulevard killed four people.

The incident started at around 2:30 a.m. when a 2018 Dodge Charger traveled at a high rate of speed.

Then, it lost control and collided with a guardrail and the bridge abutment of the Lemoran Avenue pedestrian overcrossing. Then, the force of the crash split the vehicle into two, ejecting two passengers of the vehicle into the roadway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle erupted into flames after the crash, with the driver and the front side passenger still inside.

Moreover, officers confirmed that four people died in the incident.

Furthermore, the crash blocked all southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway but has long since reopened.

At this time, the circumstances leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
