1 Person Hospitalized in Oakland Auto Accident on Interstate 580 near Fruitvale Avenue

OAKLAND, CA (September 21, 2023) – Tuesday morning, a brutal fiery crash on Interstate 580 near Fruitvale Avenue killed one person.

The incident happened at around 11:00 a.m. on Interstate 580, east of Fruitvale Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Volt and a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV collided for still unknown reasons. Then, the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV erupted into flames after the crash.

As a result, firefighters rushed to the scene and extricated the two drivers who were both trapped inside their vehicles. Then, paramedics rushed the two drivers, both females, to a hospital where one of the patients was later pronounced dead.

Moreover, the crash blocked all eastbound lanes of the freeway but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
