1 Dead in Aptos Vehicle Crash on Freedom Boulevard and McDonald Road

APTOS, CA (August 18, 2024) – Saturday morning, a brutal auto accident on Freedom Boulevard and McDonald Road killed 1 person.

The incident occurred around 7:35 a.m. on Freedom Boulevard, east of Mcdonald Road.

A 49-year-old man was driving east on Freedom Blvd. in a red 2017 Honda CRV, while a 23-year-old man was heading west on the same road in a white 1966 Chrysler Newport. For reasons still being investigated, the CHP reported that the two vehicles collided head-on.

Despite efforts to save him, the driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released his name. The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, and it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. A section of Freedom Blvd. was closed after the crash and reopened several hours later.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
