3 Dead in Whitewater Auto Accident on Interstate 10 near Haugen Lehmann Way
WHITEWATER, CA (May 15, 2023) – Sunday morning, a brutal 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Haugen Lehmann Way killed 3 people.
The incident occurred at 7:27 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Haugen Lehmann Way,
According to reports, a 31-year-old Indio man drove a 2022 Tesla Model 3 east on Interstate 10, west of Haugen Lehmann in the No. 3 lane.
Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban traveled in the same direction in the No. 2 lane. However, the two vehicles crashed, causing the SUV to lose control and struck the center divider, and overturn.
As a result, six occupants were ejected, and partially ejecting another.
Meanwhile, officers noted that some of the SUV occupants failed to wear their seat belts at the time of the crash.

As a result, three occupants of the Suburban, ages 10, 12, and 31, all died at the scene.
Then, four other occupants of the SUV sustained major injuries, including a 3-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old boy.
Meanwhile, the driver sustained moderate injuries and a 41-year-old front passenger sustained minor injuries.
Also, the Tesla driver suffered no injuries in the crash.
Moreover, an air ambulance transported two of the injured victims to a trauma center for treatment of major injuries.
Then, the incident led to the closure of Interstate 10 eastbound at Main Street until 3 p.m.
Also, the left two lanes were reopened. By 3:30 p.m., all lanes have reopened.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
