1 Dead in Nicolaus Auto Accident on Garden Highway and Highway 99
NICOLAUS, CA (September 12, 2023) – Saturday night, Somon Lopezlobato was involved in a brutal 2-vehicle crash on Garden Highway.
The incident happened at about 7:00 p.m. on the northbound on-ramp Garden Highway and northbound Highway 99.
According to reports, a 61-year-old man drove a 2017 Ford Fusion west on the northbound on-ramp of Garden Highway to northbound Highway 99 in the area of Nicolaus.
Then, 42-year-old Lopezlobato drove a Ram 1500 northbound on Highway 99 in the number two lane approaching the northbound Garden Highway on-ramp to merge.
Reports said that the driver of the Ford failed to negotiate the sharp right-hand turn for the on-ramp. Then, the Ford crossed into the number two lane, directly into the path of the Ram.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders successfully extracted the trapped Ford driver, who was found to be unresponsive. CHP personnel, in collaboration with the Fire Department, immediately initiated CPR efforts on the male for 12 minutes before being relieved by additional medical personnel. Despite extensive life-saving measures by medical personnel, they were unable to save the individual, and he was declared deceased at the scene, as confirmed by the CHP.
Both the passenger of the Ford and the driver of the Ram, identified as Mr. Lopezlobato, were taken via ambulance to Adventist Health + Rideout, both experiencing pain complaints. Fortunately, the 12-year-old passenger in the Ram emerged from the collision unharmed.
The CHP has indicated that alcohol is suspected to have played a role in causing this collision.
As a result of the incident, Northbound Highway 99 remained closed for approximately two hours, with northbound traffic being redirected to northbound Highway 70.
The identity of the deceased individual will be disclosed by the Sutter County Sheriff-Coroner once the necessary notifications have been made to the family.
