Tour Bus Transporting Choir Students Involved in Deadly Crash on Highway 101 in Brisbane
BRISBANE, CA (May 4, 2019) – One person was killed following fiery crash involving a tour bus early Saturday morning in Brisbane.
The fatal crash took place at 12:40 a.m., on northbound Highway 101. Dispatchers arrived just South of the Sierra Point Parkway soon after.
To begin, a Ford SUV tried to pull over near the center divider when one of its tires blew out. A Toyota Camry then swerved to avoid striking the SUV, when it was rear-ended by a Volkswagen. The impact consequently pushed the SUV into traffic before it was hit by a tour bus. Then, a Lincoln Navigator crashed into the back of the bus.
The driver of the bus transporting 19 choir students from Oakwood University in Alabama, traveling behind the cluster of vehicles, did not have time to stop and crashed into the pileup.
The bus and the Lincoln became fully engulfed in flames due to severe impact.
A man driving the Lincoln was pronounced dead on scene.
Two people on the bus were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Another person from one of the cars was transported with moderate to severe injuries.
Three of the four northbound lanes of the highway were shut down for more than 7 hours. The lanes were later reopened around 8:30 a.m.
Investigation of this incident is still currently ongoing. More details will eventually be released once available.
Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased. We wish the injured parties a swift and steady recovery.
