Deadly Morning Car Accident on Highway 395 in Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, CA (March 27, 2019) – Two people and one dog were killed following a car accident Wednesday morning in Bridgeport.
The fatal crash happened around 6:40 a.m. on southbound Highway 395, just North of Conway Vista Point.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Fusion was heading southbound on the highway at an unknown speed, when it traveled to the west and off the road, then south against the hillside. The car then hit the guardrail and continued down the embankment, overturning several times.
First responders found three pieces of wood in the southbound traffic lanes of Highway 395. After removing the wood from the traffic lane, they saw a damaged guardrail on the westbound shoulder then saw the car about 250 feet down the embankment.
The right front passenger was located inside the car, while the driver was ejected. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately available pending notification of their family members.
One of two dogs in the car was also killed.
The precise circumstances that led to the fatal accident remain unclear at this time. An investigation is still ongoing.
