1 Dead in San Diego DUI Accident on Interstate 8 and College Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 17, 2024) – Last weekend, Briana Michelle Contreras was arrested after a brutal wrong-way crash on Interstate 8.
The incident happened at about 12:44 a.m., about a vehicle driving east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 8, said Salvador Castro with the California Highway Patrol.
Meanwhile, a law enforcement helicopter tracked the wrong-way vehicle, a white Honda Civic, near College Avenue. Then, they found out that the suspect vehicle then hit a black Nissan Kicks in the far left traffic lane of Interstate 8 westbound, east of College Avenue
Thus, responders transported the 49-year-old Nissan driver to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, the wrong-way Honda driver 24-year-old Contreras, was transported to a hospital with major injuries.
Then, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol/or drugs and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Furthermore, the authorities closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 for nearly two hours to investigate the crash scene.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
