Fatal Mendocino County Accident on Highway 20 and Marina Drive
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (September 28, 2021) – Monday afternoon, Brandon Cleland, 38, died in a head-on crash on Highway 20 and Marina Drive.
The deadly accident occurred at around 4:13 p.m. near Highway 20 and Marina Drive.
As a result, authorities shut down the eastbound lane of Highway 20 while treating three patients. One of them suffered major injuries, while the two others sustained mild to moderate injuries.
Also, the authorities called for an air ambulance. One of the occupants, Mr. Cleland, died while two others sustained moderate to minor injuries.
Moreover, the Incident Commander called for additional units because they needed “a lotta help” for the extrication.
The Mendocino crash led to a “long-term closure.” Meanwhile, the crash stalled traffic in the eastbound lane of Highway 20.
By 7:49 p.m., Highway 20 reopened.
Later reports detailed the events leading up to the crash. Apparently, Cleland drove a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup towing another Ram truck when he drove into the opposite lanes of traffic. He then collided into a box truck driven by a 26-year-old Ukiah man.
As a resort, paramedics transported the box truck driver to Adventist Health Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits.
CHP suspects drugs or alcohol to be factors in the Highway 20 head on crash.
