Young Bicyclist Dies After Hit-And-Run Crash on Windy Stone in Katy

Katy, TX (July 4, 2024) – On Thursday night, a young boy died in a hit-and-run crash on Windy Stone and Concord Green.

A young boy died Thursday night after a driver in West Harris County crashed into him and dragged his bicycle for a short distance while fleeing the scene, investigators say.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July, according to Captain Marcus Kinnard-Bing of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office – Vehicular Crimes Division.

 Responding officers found the unidentified 10-year-old boy in the middle of the intersection of Windy Stone and Concord Green in Katy.

Preliminary details from Capt. Kinnard-Bing indicates that an SUV driver, heading north on Concord Green, hit the boy on his bike. 

The driver did not stop and fled the scene with the bicycle still underneath the SUV. The boy was airlifted to a trauma center via Lifeflight, where he died from his injuries moments later, according to Capt. Kinnard-Bing.

It’s unclear why the child was out at that time or if he was being supervised by an adult. Detectives located the bike at Greenhouse and Keith Harrow, just half a mile from the crash scene. 

Deputies are reviewing nearby surveillance footage, hoping to find evidence of the driver dislodging the bicycle from the SUV.

No additional information has been shared, and the hit-and-run driver remains at large, facing charges for failing to stop and render aid to the victim.
