1 Dead in Santa Fe Pedestrian Accident on NM 63 and Dalton Canyon Road

SANTA FE, NM (September 16, 2024) – Saturday night, a 3-year-old boy died in a brutal pedestrian crash on NM 63 and Dalton Canyon Road.

The incident happened at about 5:00 p.m. on NM 63 and Dalton Canyon Road.

A tragic accident occurred involving a young boy who was camping with his family, friends, and their pets, according to a statement from New Mexico State Police spokesperson Wilson Silver.

Reports said a vehicle traveling north on NM 63 stopped after spotting dogs on the road. Once the animals were safely moved, the driver continued driving, unaware that the child remained on the road. 

“The driver was unable to see the boy near the vehicle,” Silver noted, adding that the child was hit and later died from his injuries.

By Sunday morning, no charges had been filed. The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office has not yet commented, and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to the incident.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
