Solo-Vehicle Collision on State Route 970 Kills 13-Year-Old Boy
CLE ELUM, WA (August 27, 2018) – A boy was killed Monday in a DUI car crash on eastbound State Route 970. The victim was only identified as a 13-year-old teenager from Seattle.
A report from the Washington State Patrol stated that a 51-year-old man lost control of his green Mazda, veered off the roadway to the left, and plunged down an embankment. It flipped over multiple times before landing on its top at the bottom of the slope.
Four boys were ejected from the vehicle onto the road. One of them, the driver’s son, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The other boys, all 12/13 years old and from Seattle, were taken to the Harborview Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries. Two were listed in critical condition, but there is no update at this time.
According to authorities, the driver was believed to be under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the crash. He was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault. His identity and additional information have not yet been released to the public.
