1 Dead in Pleasanton Car Crash on Interstate 580 and Hopyard Road
PLEASANTON, CA (December 20, 2021) – Sunday morning, a 16-year-old boy died in an auto accident on Interstate 580 and Hopyard Road.
The authorities received a report of a three-vehicle crash at around 2:35 a.m. The incident occurred on eastbound Interstate 580 and Hopyard Road interchange.
According to reports, a vehicle had stalled on Interstate 580 after an initial crash. Then, another vehicle struck the first vehicle from behind at freeway speed. According to the driver of the second vehicle, he didn’t see the first vehicle before the crash.
The investigation confirmed that two separate crashes occurred in quick succession. Reports said that after a non-injury crash, the initial two vehicles became disabled in the No. 2 and No. 4 lanes.
“The driver of a third vehicle failed to observe the vehicle blocking the two-lane. Then, it crashed into it at freeway speeds,” Officer Tyler Hahn of the CHP-Dublin office said. “The previously disabled vehicle immediately became engulfed in flames, causing fatal injuries to a 16-year-old male passenger.”
Moreover, the investigation hinted that DUI played a role in the crash.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continue to investigate the crash.
Meanwhile, the crash shut down all lanes of eastbound Interstate 580 for around two hours during the investigation.
