10-Year-Old Boy Struck by Motorcycle after Stepping off School Bus near 99th Avenue and 28th Street
LAKE STEVENS, WA (May 17, 2018) – A 10-year-old boy was injured after an accident on 28th Street Northeast, late Thursday afternoon. According to reports, he was struck by a motorcycle after getting off a school bus.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM near 99th Avenue Northeast and 28th Street Northeast. Police said a Lake Stevens man in his 30’s was riding a motorcycle and passed a police cruiser going the opposite way.
When the officer turned around, the motorcyclist took off at a high rate of speed. He went around a corner where a school bus was stopped with lights flashing as it was unloading students. As he went around the bus, the motorcyclist struck the young boy before losing control about 50 feet later and going into a ditch.
The officer was not pursuing him at the time and did not see the crash. The motorcyclist sustained upper body injuries and was brought to Providence with injuries to his upper body. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment. The boy sustained a compound fracture in his left leg and was transported to the Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. He was expected to return to school the following day.
Traffic had stopped in both directions after the collision. No additional information is available at this time.
