Evening Fiery Collision on Highway 78 in Borrego Springs Kills 2 Motorist
BORREGO SPRINGS, CA (November 24, 2018) – Two people were killed following a fiery crash Saturday evening on a desert highway near Ocotillo Wells, according to Cal Fire San Diego.
The crash happened just before 7:00 p.m. on Highway 78 at Quarry Road.
Witnesses told officers that a Toyota pickup truck was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane when it collided head-on with a Kia sedan. Both vehicles to burst into flames upon impact and ended up off the highway shoulder.
When Cal Fire crews extinguished the fire, they found both drivers dead inside their burning vehicles.
Highway 78 was briefly closed in both directions until almost 10:00 p.m.
The names of the dead motorists were not immediately available pending notification of their family members.
Investigation of this fatal crash is still ongoing.
