Hilda Flores Arrested in Fatal DUI Head-On Crash on San Miguel Canyon Road in Prunedale
PRUNEDALE, CA (May 31, 2019) – Three women were killed following a DUI head-on crash Friday just before 6:00 p.m. in Prunedale.
Blanca Estela Rangel, 49, Maria Teresa Rangel, 43, and Manuela Marta Torres, 58, all of Salinas were killed, according to the Monterey County sheriff’s office.
The crash happened in the 300 block of San Miguel Canyon Road near Mark Ryan Estates and Hamby Lane.
According to the CHP, a 27-year-old Hilda Valencia Flores of Salinas was driving a brown Chevrolet Malibu. After that, she was southbound on San Miguel Canyon Road when she veered into the oncoming lane.
The driver of a white Chevrolet HHR van attempted to avoid the Malibu, but was unsuccessful. The vehicles collided head-on.
As a result, the three passengers of the van were pronounced dead at the scene. In addition, the driver was taken to Natividad Medical Center with serious injuries.
Flores also suffered major injuries and was taken to a trauma center. However, she was later arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Officials say everyone in both cars was wearing a seatbelt.
San Miguel Canyon Road between Hall Road and Highway 101 was closed during the investigation.
