Blanca Jones and Charles Rodriguez Hurt in Tragic Crash on SH-188 [Corpus Christi, TX]

Corpus Christi, TX (November 28, 2023) On Monday morning, 53-year-old Blanca Jones of Cary, NC, and 71-year-old Charles Rodriguez of Sinton were hurt in a tragic crash on SH-188 that killed 22-year-old Joaquin Puente of Crystal City.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal 2-vehicle collision happened around 6:36 a.m. on State Highway 188.

Reports say that Puente was driving an eastbound 2001 Buick Century on SH-188 when the vehicle crossed over into the opposite lane and collided with a westbound 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by Rodriguez.

The impact of the collision caused the Dodge to veer off the road and into an embankment and came to rest facing eastbound, while the Buick came to a stop in the eastbound lane. Officials say that Jones was a passenger on the Dodge.

Both Rodriguez and Jones were injured due to the crash and were taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital by Allegiance EMS.

Meanwhile, officials declared Puente dead at the scene. DPS is investigating the 2-vehicle collision and have not released further information at this time.
