Driver Mario Vega Hits Bicyclist in Hamilton City Accident
HAMILTON CITY, CA (May 3, 2019) – A bicyclist was injured after a vehicle driven by Mario Vega struck her on County Road 203 at 2:15 p.m. on May 1.
According to reports, a 52-year-old female bicyclist rode north on County Road 203 south of County Road 9. However, 29-year-old Mario Vega in a Mercedes came up behind her driving 55 mph.
Investigators revealed that Vega let his car steer to the right, went off the road onto the gravel shoulder as he came near the rider.
The front of the vehicle hit the bike’s rear and the rider.
The woman was carried a short distance on the front of the car as Vega steered sharply to the left, according to the release. As the Mercedes crossed both lanes of traffic, the woman fell off the front of the car in the southbound lane.
The car continued out of control, went off the road and went down the embankment into a canal.
Vega was uninjured and able to get out of the car. He then went to check on the cyclist, according to the CHP. The woman suffered major injuries and was transported to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
No arrests were made.
