Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted after Striking with Bicycle near Downer Avenue
RICHMOND, CA (July 7, 2018) – A bicyclist was hospitalized early Saturday morning following an alleged hit-and-run collision on 23rd Street.
According to Richmond police, they received reports about a hit-and-run crash at 12:40 AM in the area of 23rd Street and Downer Avenue. They found a bicyclist lying in the road suffering from a severe leg injury.
The bicyclist was transported to a hospital, where he remains in grave condition. His identity and address were not immediately released to the public. Meanwhile, the driver did not stop at the scene and continued to head north on 23rd Street. Two male passengers were reportedly seen inside the hit-and-run vehicle at the time of the collision.
An initial investigation suggests that the man was on his bicycle when a vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Witnesses claimed that the car was a dark, four-door, early 2000s Ford Crown Victoria. Police stated that the vehicle involved could be a former police or security vehicle with police-style spotlights. In addition, the vehicle was expected to have damage to its headlight with one of the police style spotlights missing.
