Bicyclist Dies, Suspect Detained after DUI Crash on Paradise Valley Road
San Diego, CA (May 14, 2020)– On Wednesday night, an unidentified bicyclist died, and James Bumpus was detained for a suspected DUI crash on Paradise Valley Road.
San Diego Police responded upon receiving crash reports at around 9:15 p.m. on May 13. Dispatched officers arrived and located a car and the bicyclist down on the scene.
Reportedly, a 2008 Saab 9-3 sedan travelled westbound when it struck a bicyclist from behind as he was riding along the north edge of Paradise Valley Road.
The 52-year-old victim sustained severe injuries and responders immediately transported him to a hospital.
Nonetheless, doctors later pronounced him dead. Officers have yet to disclose his identity, pending family notification.
At this time, 28-year-old Bumpus is detained by police, facing charges of felony DUI.
Furthermore, officers closed the surrounding area off for a brief of time during cleanup and preliminary duties. However, it has since reopened.
