Fatal Bicycle and Train Collision on Bond Road near Elk Grove Florin Road
ELK GROVE, CA (August 19, 2019) – A bicyclist lost his life in a train collision on Bond Road, Monday evening. Authorities withheld his identity, pending notification of next of kin.
Accoridng to the Elk Grove Police Department, the incident happened at about 5:15 PM. The freight train spotted the man on the tracks and honked its horn. However, the man did not stop his bicycle. The train could not stop in time and hit the eastbound bicyclist.
Unfortunately, the unidentified bicyclist died at the scene. No other injuries were reported by the authorities.
Witnesses claim that the crossing arms went down and the lights were activated at the railroad crossing. Stopped drivers joined the train’s operator in sounding their horns before the collision happened. Officers continue to investigate the reason why the bicyclist did not stop despite the warnings.
