Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted after Fatal Bicycle Crash near Imperial Highway
SOUTH GATE, CA (June 15, 2019) – A bicyclist has lost his life in a hit-and-run crash on 710 Freeway, late Saturday evening. Authorities withheld his identity, pending family notification.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Imperial Highway, at about 11:30 PM. An eastbound bicyclist attempted to enter the freeway when a vehicle, described as a large black Ford SUV or pickup truck, hit him.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced the victim, described as a man in his 60s, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash. Investigators encourage witnesses to contact CHP Officer J. Vargas at (323) 980-4600. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
