Box Truck Hits and Kills Bicyclist on Highway 101 in Ventura
VENTURA, CA (July 17, 2019) – A bicyclist was killed Wednesday evening in a traffic crash on Highway 101, near the State Beaches.
The crash was reported around 8:45 p.m., along the northbound side of Highway 101. Dispatchers arrived just past the State Beaches off-ramp.
CHP say the bicyclist was struck by a blue Isuzu box truck in the slow lane of the highway. Emergency personnel were later called to the scene but eventually cancelled when authorities declared the victim dead on scene as a result of the impact.
According to reports, the box truck driver remained unharmed. He also told NewsChannel 3 that he did not see the bicycle in time to react or swerve out of the way.
A witness also reported that the bicycle had no reflectors or lights at the time of the collision. Furthermore, that particular stretch of the freeway has no streetlights.
Moreover, the surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened.
Further details, including the identity of the victim, were not immediately available. However, the incident still currently remains under investigation at this time.
We hope the loved ones of the victim are surrounded by steadfast and comforting support as they grieve for the loss of their loved one during this difficult time.
