Bicycle Rider Fatally Struck by Car on 405 Freeway in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (September 13, 2019) – A bicyclist died in a crash late Friday evening in Long Beach.
The crash happened just after 10:00 p.m. on 405 Freeway at Woodruff Avenue.
According to an initial report, a 39-year old man was riding a bicycle in the auxiliary lane of the northbound 405 Freeway. As he approached Woodruff Avenue, he was hit by a car driven by an 83-year-old Long Beach man.
As a result, the bicyclist died at the scene. His name was not immediately available.
Authorities are still trying to determine why the victim was riding on a limited-access highway. It is also unknown if the victim had lights on his bike, although the freeway itself should have been lighted.
Investigation of this fatal crash is ongoing.
