Car Fatally Struck Bicyclist on Highway 1 near Davenport
DAVENPORT, CA (May 27, 2019) – A male bicyclist died Thursday night after a collision with a car on Highway 1 near Davenport.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the cyclist was riding southbound on the highway when a Toyota Prius hit him at around 9:45 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the victim was a 66-year-old man from Santa Cruz. The Toyota driver is a 61-year-old woman who is also from Santa Cruz. Their names were not made publicly available.
In the meantime, the CHP said the driver cooperated with the investigators. Neither an arrest has been made nor a citation has been issued in relation to the accident.
Moreover, the fatal collision prompted the closure of Highway 1 for over three hours. CHP reopened the highway at 1:25 a.m. Friday after detouring traffic onto Cement Plant Road.
